Obituary for Arleen Beverly Wright (Cooke)

In loving memory of Arleen Wright

Arleen Beverly Wright ,83 passed away suddenly on March 3, 2022 at Belleville General Hospital with her family by her side. She was born May 13, 1938 in Montreal Quebec to William and Rose (Budd) Cook.

Arleen is survived by her children Bobbi McIver (Mark Tripp), Steve Wright, Cindy Wright and Bill Wright (Wendy Senkow). Grand-children Jason McIver, Andrew Hobbs, Allen Hobbs, Adam Hobbs, Kristine Thompson, Chris Wright, Sarah Pell and Beverly Pell. Many Great grand-children, far too many to mention. Predeceased by her partner of over 40 years Jim (Jesse James) Quinn.

Her home was the center of the entire family, with her as the Matriarch. She was the glue that held us all together for decades. Holidays always meant a full house, with children then grand-children and eventually great grand-children taking up every nook and cranny. She loved and worried about each one of us, from the youngest to the oldest. Always considerate and caring about someone else – but never herself. She never complained, because as she said “it never gets you anywhere”, just got right back up and right back at it. We cannot ever hope to ever put into words how much she will be missed, there are just not words for it. And, we know how much she would dislike even a hint of this more formal obituary. She was the most fun loving, funny, slot machine loving, quirky, animal loving non Great-gramdma type of great -grandma you could ever hope to meet.

She was a well known face at the Quinte Mall Sears store, with over 20 years at the cosmetics counter, helping countless helpless men and sons buy gifts for wives and moms on every occasion. She had a smile for everyone she met, and everyone she met remembered her. If you missed her at the counter, she could usually be found at the ticket kiosk, trying her hand at a few scratch or Nevada tickets. Even after 20 years of retirement, people that met her there still remember and ask about her.

Arleen worked with the Children's Aid Society and other area children's groups, taking in many at-risk children and teens needing homes after her retirement from Sears. She was loving, caring and also firm when necessary with them all. Her commitment to children in need was unquestioned and remembered by many child care workers. A loved Foster Mom to so many – too many to count. There are so many young women out there that appreciated, remembered her guidance, and took it to heart. And so many that were still in contact with her after many years. They were her joy and frustration both at times, but she never gave up on them.

A huge animal lover and advocate, she has cared for many strays and injured animals over the years. Feral cats, possums, raccoon’s and even recently a fox knew they could always come to the back door for a warm meal. Her beloved Buddy and Spaz2.0 are going to miss her so much. They will be looked after by family and spoiled for the rest of their years.

Always remember, we love you more Mom

Donations in her name can be made to her favourite charities. Either Fixed Fur Life or Belleville Humane Society would make her very happy.
