Obituary for Barbara Garnier (Garnier)

Barbara Elizabeth Garnier
September 24, 1937 - April18, 2023

At the table of life, Barbara was surrounded with many family and friends. Born in Guyana, South America, to parents Cecelia and Achille Garnier, she developed a fondness for all things West Indian: the food, music, traditions, and the people.

A passionate, fun-loving, playful woman, Barbara married Vibert de Jesus. Together with their daughters, Debra and Christine, they relocated to Toronto in the autumn of 1969.

Barbie, as she was fondly nicknamed, was soon joined by her life-long friends, Adeline and Bridget. Together once again, Barbie, Addy and Bridget continued their adventures in their beautiful, new adopted country.

Barbie enjoyed entertaining and would read cards for family and friends. Regardless of how outrageous the prediction seemed, the end result would always come to fruition. She had good karma.

Barbie loved pets, once owning a monkey, several varieties of birds, including a parrot, and many dogs. Her tender generous heart held deep love for her only grandchild, Steven Jesse, his wife, Megan, and her two adorable great grandchildren, Hannah and Nathaniel. Barbara also had great affection for her nephew Brian, his wife Nadira, and their beautiful daughters, Amanda and Jessica.

Barbara's daughters, Debra and her husband Augustino; Christine and her husband Scott, will always remember a very special mom who adored her family and shared her passion for life. Her sparkling green eyes, soft accent, kindness, infectious laughter, and spontaneity will be remembered by all that knew her.

In addition to her immediate family, Barbara is survived by her sister, Maise, in Trinidad. In heaven, Barbara will be joining her siblings Achille, Desmond, Elaine, and Michael.

Thank you to everyone who shared in her life. From our family to yours, God bless.
