Obituary for Cory Vanderwerf

Our dear brother, Cory, passed away November 29, 2023 after a 3 year struggle with various health issues. He is sadly missed by siblings Grace Wilman, John Vanderwerf (Margie), Alice Vanderwerf, Walter Vanderwerf (Ellen) & Peter Vanderwerf (Cynthia). He was loved by his nephews and nieces and is survived by great nephews and great nieces as well.

Cory was proud of the creative part of his stone masonry, but his first love was rock and roll. He played the drums as a teen with friends, but decided he needed to get a job to support himself. He was able to name every rock and roll artist and song with only a few notes played or lyrics quoted and only recently found the joys of no ad music and being able to choose his own playlist. Cory was a good amateur photographer. At one time he had his own dark room equipment. His photographs back in the day were compelling.

Cory was a hard worker, and moved to a number of locations in Manitoba, Alberta and back to Ontario to find the work. He worked in the mines in Thompson, Manitoba, as a carpet installer in Edmonton, Alberta and many years as a stonemason in Kingston and Brockville, Ontario. He was fun loving, and had a dry sense of humour. He was quiet, but was worth listening to when he spoke. We cherish the times we had with him and will miss him. He is now with Jesus, totally free and happy.
