Obituary for David Garfield Dawe

David Garfield Dawe sadly passed away on February 23, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 76.

He was born in Halifax NS, to Ruby and Gerald Dawe of St. John’s Newfoundland.
Dave graduated from the University of Western with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He then graduated from Queens University with his Bachelor of Education.

David was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Sharon Cassidy on October 2nd, 1977. Dave helped raise his four children with kindness, love and patience.

Dave was an educator at heart. He was kind and soft spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He absolutely loved being a father and grandfather, and was a kind loving husband. Dave had a passion for collectibles including cameras, art, music, and so much more including a family favourite: Moose items. He was nicknamed Moose from his kids and it stuck with family. Dave had a great sense of humour and adored the Moose gifts from his kids over the years. Dave always surrounded himself with his friends and family, which is where he felt most comfortable and loved. Dave was eager for knowledge, loved traveling, and photography. He enjoyed listening to music all throughout the years. David loved the Lord and was passionate about reading the bible and sharing the word. The book of Psalms was his favourite.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Dave managed his illness with strength and grace,
and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by family.

David is survived by his wife, Sharon (Cassidy); his children Geoff, Timothy (Krista) and Asa (Nicole); his daughter Hannah; his grandchildren Hayden, Alana, Ethan, Samuel, Josephine, Ava & Vincent. His sisters, Janet Baltes (Dietmar), Joanne Helmer (Doug) and Rebecca Dawe (Buddy).

There will be a celebration of life held for David Dawe on March 11, 2023 11:30am – 2:30pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 560. 734 Montreal Street Kingston, Ontario K7K 3J4. Welcome to family and friends. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to Partners in Mission Foodbank to help those in need.
