Obituary for Elizabeth Marlyn Stonier (Stewart)

Marlyn Stonier
May 6, 1936 - Dec. 27, 2022
With sadness we announce the passing of Elizabeth Marlyn Stonier. Mother of six: David Campbell (Sheila), Dwight Campbell (Wanda), Ruth Bartok (Stephen), Myra Stonier-Sutton (Brian), Kathleen Bearman (Ian) & John Stonier (Linda). She was also Grandma and Nana to seven grandchildren (Amanda & David, Stephanie, Kianne & Kaila, Carolin & Jack) and three great grandchildren (Robbie & Gabriel, and Ariana).
Marlyn, adopted at 3 years old, grew up with her loving parents (late William & Ethel Stewart) & late sister Audrey in Montreal where she was educated, developed lifelong friendships, and worked her first job at Birk’s Jewellers. After several years starting her family in New Brunswick, she moved to Ontario where she made the best of a country homestead built with her late husband (John Stonier) following a house fire that destroyed the old farmhouse and led to delivery of her youngest son on an icy cottage floor in January on the banks of Loughborough Lake.
Following a career at Alcan and years of self-employment, in retirement Marlyn’s focus was the needs of friends & neighbours. She loved to bake and was known for her wonderful homemade bread, donuts, cakes and church social goodies! Although never well off, her drive was to share what she could, ever grateful for all the assistance given her by many friends, family & the local community. Family will miss her greatest joy of bringing her extended family together around the dinner table. Having tracked down her birth Mom at age 60, and embraced a stepdaughter in the UK, every new member of the family was a joy to her.
Although never seeking the spotlight, Mom was our hub, gentle and practical, yet a fighter to the end through the challenges of life. Despite her waning health, she kept going, making it well into her 87th year, and to her final family gathering just weeks ago.

As we send her off on her next journey, we wish her a smooth ride…until we meet again!
A Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring.
