Obituary for Sandra Payne (Payne)

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Sandra Doreen Payne of Kingston, Ontario, announce her short illness and unexpected death in the Kingston General Hospital on December 23rd, 2021.She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters, who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest, as she wished. Sandra was a beautiful, kind and loving person, extraordinary sister, mother, grandmother and a good friend to many people.
She is survived by daughters: Tracey Young (Roger Grimmond) of Ottawa, Shannon Catterall (Dwight Catterall), Erin Young, of Kinston, and Kelley Young (Blair Pearson) of Brockville. Sandra or ‘Nana’ will always be remembered by her loving grandchildren, Sheamus, Seth, Andrew, Cole, Grace, and Foster for the unbelievable generosity, patience, and unconditional love she showered upon them.
Sandra was born on April 11, 1948 in Montreal PQ, to James (Benny) and Daisy(Grow) Payne and was the fourth (4th) oldest of eleven (11) children . She was predeceased by her parents and her Great Aunt Olga, whose’ role modelling of ‘unconditional love of children and people’ would influence Sandra throughout her life. The love of her children, siblings, grandchildren and friends was at the heart of everything that Sandra did in her life. She experienced great sadness with the loss of her brother’s Ken, Ron, Bruce, her sister and best friend Ruth in preceding years. Sandra’s remaining siblings: Brenda Payne (NS); Karen Demassi(Alta); Cynthia Payne (Ont); and brothers: Jim Payne (NB); Brian Payne (Alta); and Barry Payne (Ont); will never be able to fill the family gap created by this loss. In addition to her many talents (too many to mention) of cooking, decorating, refurnishing furniture, cleaning and just being a great worker Sandra had a wonderful sense of humor. She was just an outstanding friend and sister!
Sandra will always be remembered as an example of the importance of showing kindness and courtesy to everyone she encountered. This sentiment would be echoed by her friends and co-workers. Sandra worked for DuPont Canada for over 35 years and will be remembered for her incredible work ethic, and dedication to her clients and co-workers. Following retirement from DuPont, Sandra filled her time working at Toys R Us; a job she loved and whose co-workers loved her. She was given the nickname ‘Fun Nana’ because her work earnings would be spent on toys and gifts for her grandchildren. She was described as a joy to work with and customers remarked on her kindness and patience with each purchase made.
Sandra’s death is such a significant and tremendous loss to those she left behind. A role model for her daughters on being an ethical, loving, honest and compassionate mother and on her siblings about the importance of always caring for family members in life. Her presence will be deeply missed and we are so very grateful to have had this kind of love in our lives for as long as we did.
Mom, Nana, Sandy we all love you so very much and you will be missed always. xoxoxoxox
